Abstract
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a commonly performed procedure for the treatment of symptomatic gallstone disease. Laparosopic cholecystectomy has advantage of lessel postoperative pain and more rapid recovery compared with conventional open
cholecystectomy.
We performed 219 cases of laparoscopic cholecystectomy between September 1991 and September, 1994 consecutively. There were 73 male patients and 146 female patients(M : F=1:2) and the age ranged from 16 to 80 years(mean : 48.7). Preoperative
diagnosis
is was made by thorough history and physical examination, which is confirmed by abdominal ultrasonogram. Duration of operation ranged from 30 minutes to 230 minutes (mean : 85.5 minutes). Conversion to open cholecystectomy during operation was
done
in
25 cases(11.9%), and leading causes were severe adhesion, uncontrolled bleeding, GB empyema, suspected malignancy, CBD injury, anatomical anomaly and GB cancer. The biggest stone was 4.5cm in diameter. The length of hospital stay ranged from 1 to
7
day
with average of 2.8 day.
The complications occurred in 0.46% and there was no postoperative mortality case.
In conclusion, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe and effective operation in patients with gall bladder stone as much as conventional open cholecystectomy.
